Kullu district or valley of gods is in northern of himachal pradesh bordered by mandi , kangra ,shimla , lahaul spiti and kinnaur. From Rampur in south to Rohtang Pass in north kullu district is stretched.Kullu valley which is also known as valley of gods is the largest valley in Kullu district.The town kullu is situated on the bank of river Beas and manali is another town on farther north.

History of kullu district

Till 1960, some area of land of lahaul spiti was part of Kullu tehsil.In 1963 kullu was declared district of Punjab and on november 1st 1963 kullu became district of Himachal Pradesh. Malana village located in the district is known as the oldest democracy in the world. some decisions are made through ancient methods Even today here in Malana valley.

Geography and Climate

Kullu district is located in the north of Himachal Pradesh between latitude of 31.5 degrees north and longitude of 77.7 degrees east.Lahaul spitit and kangra are bordered in north and north east respectively.Height of kullu district varies from 1180 to 6000 metres.
Main Rivers of Kullu district:
Beas , Satluj and Prabati.

Temperature in kullu district is very moderate, and cool and dry. There is moderate rainfall during monsoon season .Some part of kullu district get Heavy rainfall during winter and temperature also decreses during winter season.This is the reason kullu and manali is favourite destination for tourists.
