Shimla is capital of Himachal Pradesh and  during Britishers time Shimla was summer capital of India. Shimla is known for its natural beauty and tourist places.
Shimla is also known as queen of hills.
Kufri, Naldehra, Chuddhar , Sarahan-Rampur, Mashobara etc are famous places to visit. Shimla is third most populous and urbanized city in Himachal Pradesh.
In shimla agriculture is main occupation of people, and shimla is also known for Apples. Rohru, Jubbal & Kothkhai, theog, kotgarh and Rampur are places where different varieties of apples are grown.

Location of Shimla
Shimla district is located in south-western ranges of the Himalayas. Shimla is located at a height of around 2206 meters from sea level surrounded by Kinnaur and Uttrakhand in East, Solan and mandi is west, Mandi and Kullu in North and Sirmaur and Uttrakhand in south .

History of Shimla district

Before independence every part of Shimla which was located in middle of Sutlej River and Yamuna River was called as Pahari estate. This area was ruled by Kushaan, Maurya, Guptas, Mukhri etc. In year 1864 Shimla was declared as summer capital of India by British government.
Shimla was declared as Capital of Punjab after independence and later of Himachal Pradesh. In year 1972 shimla became district of Himachal pradesh.
