Solan is one of 12 districts in Himachal Pradesh. Solan is 1936 km sq area and second most urbanised district in Himachal Pradesh.
Solan is also known as 'mushroom city' because of its highest mushroom production.
Except baddi and Nalagarh in solan district every other area is hilly area.
Name of solan district is derived from mata shoolini.

History of solan district

Solan district which is today was comprises of princely states of Bhagat Bhagal, Kunihar, Kuthar,Beja, Mangal, Mahlog, Nalagarh and parts of Keonthal and Kothi and hilly areas of Punjab State  were merged with Himachal Pradesh on 1 November 1966.
      On 1st September 1972 solan district comes to existence. The district was established by merging Arki and solan Tehsils of mahasu district and Kandaghat and Nalagarh of shimla district.
